Power of Storytelling emphasized during online panel discussion by PRSI Jammu

The Public Relations Society of India, Jammu Chapter, organised an enriching panel discussion on the theme ‘Power of Storytelling in Public Relations: Crafting Narratives for Strong Relationships.’

The event, conducted in a virtual format under the guidance of Prof Anil Saumitra, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu, Chairperson PRSI, J&K Chapter and Dr Archana Kumari, Associate Professor, JNU, Secretary PRSI Jammu, garnered participation from various parts of the country to explore the pivotal role of storytelling in the field of Public Relations.

The distinguished panel comprised Prof Simrat Gulati, Visiting Faculty and Advisor at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi, and Ms Deepna Mehta, former Additional General Manager, Corporate Communication, National Thermal Power Corporation.

Emphasizing the evolution of storytelling in brand building over the years, Prof. Simrat underscored how a compelling narrative can forge a deep connection between a brand/product and its audience, effectively driving product sales and brand/product loyalty.

Ms Deepna shed light on her experiences and challenges while spearheading communications efforts at NTPC, elaborating on how effective storytelling fostered a sense of pride and trust within the NTPC community and beyond.

Chairing the event, Dr. Garima Gupta, HoD, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, highlighted that by acknowledging emotions and extending empathy through storytelling, we can foster a sense of togetherness and strengthen the fabric of our communities.

During the interactive Q&A segment, the attendees expressed their delight in participating in the event, and shared insightful opinions.

Veteran journalist from Jammu, OP Sharma, underscored that storytelling is deeply ingrained in India’s cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from literary luminaries such as Munshi Premchand and Mulk Raj Anand.

Dr. Ravia Gupta, Asst Prof, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, Executive Member, PRSI Jammu Chapter, asserted, “The power of a good word needs to be spread,” underscoring the transformative impact of impactful narratives.

Dr. Ajit Pathak, National President, PRSI, conveyed his warm wishes to the PRSI team, panelists and attendees. He encouraged them to stay connected and continue collaborating in the pursuit of excellence in the field of public relations.

Dr. Monisha Qadri from Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, Joint Secretary, PRSI Jammu, gave an introduction to PRSI and its Jammu Chapter. Ms Harry Walia, Journalist, Media Professional, Member, PRSI Jammu, presented vote of thanks, while Ms Ambika Rashmi, Convener of the Nalanda Student Forum of PRSI, moderated the discussion, and Ms Komal Shangloo, student of Central University of Jammu, introduced the guests.
