The J&K government has failed to provide ex-panchayat members, their monthly honorarium, from July 2011 to March 2013.
DRD Kashmir has said that it is willing to disburse Rs 5.95 crores available with it, and has written to the State Finance Department to seek authorization. However, DRD Jammu appears clueless about the issue, and needs time to process the demand.
The Panchayat elections for 4130 Sarpanch and 29719 Panch constituencies were last held in 2011.
Here, the Panchs are entitled to get Rs 1000, while the Sarpanchs get Rs 2000 as a monthly honorarium. Hence, the total unpaid amount comes out to be Rs 79 crores.
